Picture yourself, surrounded by a stunning North Shore landscape with a state-of-the-art digital camera in hand. Snap! A great white egret taking flight. Snap! A Marblehead sunset. Snap! A historic moment at the Saugus Iron Works. Snap! You’ve captured an award-winning image for this year’s Essex Heritage Photo Contest.
Far fetched? Not at all if you have registered to participate in Essex Heritage’s Photo Safari program. This summer, Essex Heritage and Hunt’s Photo & Video will co-host four Photo Safaris, each taking place in an incredibly beautiful Essex National Heritage Area backdrop, each sponsored by a different major camera or lens company – Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Tamron.
The sponsoring company offers free use of their very latest digital imaging equipment for either a morning or afternoon Photo Safari session, plus hands-on tutorials by Hunt’s technical experts to help guide you through your photo shoot. Two of the events will also feature world renown photographers, Roy Toft, a passionate nature conservationist whose work has been featured in National Geographic, Smithsonian, and Audubon magazines, and Pulitzer Prize winner and National Geographic photographer, Jay Dickman.
The results have generated eye-catching entries in the annual Essex Heritage Photo Contest. In its third year, the Essex Heritage Photo Safari program is open to photo enthusiasts of all interest levels, and is designed to showcase the beauty and unique landscape of the Essex National Heritage Area. This program also highlights the mission of Essex Heritage, the nonprofit steward promoting land conservation in Essex County, and providing essential funds to preserve historic treasures. Working in partnership with the National Park Service, Essex Heritage encourages public/private partnerships and implements programs to enhance, preserve and promote the unique historic, cultural and natural resources of the Essex National Heritage Area.
