On Monday, August 24, Essex Heritage flipped the switch on our new solar array at Bakers Island Light station. This system was made possible by a generous grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club. The light station has always been off the grid, which has presented many challenges for its residents and keepers over the years. However, when Sun Club awarded Essex Heritage with a grant to fund a new solar power system in 2019, life at the light station began to change. This new upgraded array has improved the quality of life for our keepers and guests as they now have access to amenities that were previously unavailable. For instance, it is now possible to enjoy a cold beverage with ice, use a vacuum cleaner, or power tools needed to maintain the property. Click here to read the full press release.
