“Beauty on the Wing: Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly” Screening and Q&A with Director Kim Smith
Join Essex Heritage for a screening and Q&A of this award-winning documentary from Kim Smith, local resident and filmmaker. Filmed in Gloucester, Massachusetts and the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserves at Estado de México and Michoacán, the film illuminates how two regions, separated by thousands of miles, are ecologically interconnected.

Monarch Waystation Tour at Bakers Island Light
Join Essex Heritage to learn about the process of creating monarch waystations at Bakers Island Light and how they attract migrating Monarchs. Essex Heritage’s Manager of Future Resources, Charles Smith, will lead the group on a tour of the trails and gardens of Bakers Island Light to talk about the history of the light station and how Essex Heritage has worked to make the site more sustainable and plant native species to attract pollinators.

Derby Garden Pollinator Chat and Stroll
Join Essex Heritage and the National Park Service for a leisurely chat about pollinators and the gardens behind the Derby House. Anna Spencer, Facilities and Grounds Supervisor for Salem Maritime and Saugus Ironworks National Historic Sites, will lead a Q&A session with visitors about the Colonial Revival gardens and their benefits to pollinators.
