SUMMARY:Hands-on History with Historic Beverly
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn about the often overlooked parts of local Black history and culture in the 18th century through objects\, games\, and dance! \n\n\nJoin Essex Heritage and Krystina Yeager of Historic Beverly at the Salem Visitor Center to hear the stories of local Black residents in Essex County based on new research that’s been uncovered. \nThrough engaging hands-on activities\, we will explore parts of Black history and daily life that are often overlooked which reveal a rich culture even within enslavement. Come feel fabric samples\, play period games\, and even learn how to do the minuet! \nAmong other activities\, participants will learn how to play Achi\, a strategy game from West Africa\, very similar to tic-tac-toe or three men’s morris. \n \nThis 45-minute program is free\, family-friendly\, and open to all ages but geared towards kids 7+. \nRegistration is strongly encouraged\, space is limited. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis family program has been made possible thanks to generous funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
