DESCRIPTION:The year is 1775—tensions with the British Crown are rising\, and one question is on every colonist’s mind: Would you fight for independence as a Patriot or remain loyal to the British Crown as a Loyalist? \nJoin us as our two historians face yet another Great Debate that divided colonists and even families during the American Revolution. David Goss will argue the case for Loyalists\, and Charlie Newhall will argue the case for Patriots. Pingree Director of the Phillips Library\, and Angela Segalla\, Director of the Collection Center and Collection Stewardship\, for an exclusive “behind-the-scenes” tour of the Peabody Essex Museum’s (PEM) James B. and Mary Lou Hawkes Collection Center in Rowley. Home to the Phillips Library and\, eventually\, more than 850\,000 works of art and culture from the PEM’s robust collection\, the Hawkes Collection Center is a state-of-the-art and ever-evolving facility. Dan and Angela will bring attendees through the structure that protects and preserves PEM’s remarkable global collection. \nThis free Heritage Friend Event is for Essex Heritage members only.
