Tiffany Stained Glass Windows Tour

St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church parish, founded in 1844, is housed in an incredibly beautiful reddish granite building built in 1881 on Lynn Common. Enjoy a tour of the church and learn about the collection of over 41 Tiffany stained glass windows, which are among the oldest ecclesiastical Tiffany windows in the world. Two very large windows were designed by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens. It is also the burial place of Lt. Col. Charles Redington Mudge, Civil War hero who died at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863, and son of the donor, Enoch Redington Mudge.

Gardens by the Sea (2015)

Join The House of the Seven Gables for a fabulous talk by Robyn Kanter to learn about The Gables' historic garden. Robyn Kanter, of Kanter Design Associates, worked under Dan Foley, landscape architect and horticulturist, when he relandscaped The Gables' garden and has remained true to its vision. She will tell the story of a garden that is one of the oldest on the North Shore, and arguably one of the oldest anywhere that has remained virtually unchanged by time and fashion.

Fish Seining Demonstration on the Beach

Which fishes live in Salem Harbor? At this demonstration, Salem Sound Coastwatch staff and volunteers will walk a large seining net into the water and then drag it back to shore where we'll lay it out, gather around to examine the catch, and talk about what we found. Seining is a method of fishing that has been used for thousands of years--as far back to the stone age. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and share information about marine habitats and the ecology of Salem Sound.
