Captains and Currency: A Chronicle of the Perkins and Brown Families of Newburyport

Learn about local ship captains and inventors in "Captains and Currency," an exhibition celebrating Newburyport's maritime heritage and history of ingenuity. The exhibit focuses on the local Perkins and Brown families and is housed in the historic Perkins Mint Building, where New England currency was printed in the early 1800s. On land and at sea, the two families left their mark on local and national history.

Welcome to White Court

Come join the Town of Swampscott for a celebration of the historical, cultural, and natural wonder of Swampscott’s iconic White Court (Calvin Coolidge’s Summer White House). Visitors will be able to enjoy memorabilia from President Coolidge’s family as well as stories of his presidency. Visitors can also view cars from the 1920s, take part in programming and fun activities for kids, as well as music and light refreshments.

Visit the Witch House to see the newest exhibit on elderflower remedies including tea, syrup, cordial and balm all featuring the flower that in Lady Montague's 18th century letters of the "language of flowers" signifies compassion and empathy.

Family Nature Exploration

Come learn about the birds and nature found on Veasey Park's 48 acres of conservation land. Inside we will have nature themed crafts, hands on exploration, and a story time. Learn how to make nature fun for kids and grown-ups alike. Recommended for all ages. After take a self-guided nature walk on our marked trails to see what you can find. We will provide nature bingo sheets and trail maps.

Sailor Crafts and Activities

Imagine what life was like at sea as you rummage through the sea bags of a ship’s boy, a sailor, and a captain. Try writing your name using signal flags used to send messages at sea. Then, make a Sailor Valentine out of sea shells like the ones sailors would create for their loved ones back home.

Stroll Through Lawrence’s "Little Italy"

Join local historians Joe Bella, Rich Padova and Thomas Spitalere for a stroll through Lawrence's Italian district. This tour will start at Holy Rosary Church the heart of the Italian community. From there we will walk down Common Street, Newbury Street, Garden Street, Summer Street, Jackson Street, and end on Union Street. On this tour we will explore Lawrence's lasting Italian culture, and the architecture that has shaped a neighborhood for generations.
