Film: Early Salem Area History

Open House. Artifacts from the Tapley Memorial Hall Archives researched by Salem State University "Arts in America" students presented. "Early Salem History" : a 25 minute film by Heritage Films showing at 7:15. Visit Tapley Memorial Hall, a Neo-Georgian style meeting hall, built by the Danvers Historical Society in 1930 to house its unique collections and host community events.

Buddha on the Move, and More

See how an 1,100 pound, 12th Century 'Jizo Bosatsu' Buddha was unearthed, restored and moved to his new home at the Historical Society! From here walk to the Nahant thicket for bird watching or quiet reflection or drive to and park at the Nahant Life Saving Station on Nahant Road for a tour (Sun. 9/24, 1-4pm only) and head over to the Heritage Trail which will lead you to Bailey's Hill/Fort Ruckman and a spectacular view of Boston Harbor.

Come Share Poetry

Producer Gayle C. Heney invites everyone to North Andover CAM Studio to participate in or witness the making of a poetry TV program featuring YOUR poetry. If you plan on participating, please bring two original poems and be ready to read/perform. There will be room for a small studio audience, for those who wish to come but do not want to read any poetry.

Guided Tour of It's Alive: Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection

Kirk Hammett, best known as the guitarist of the rock band Metallica, is also an avid collector of classic horror and sci-fi movie posters. This exhibition features 135 works that provide insight into the evolution of horror and sci-fi films and how they have played upon contemporary societal fears. Hammett acknowledges his poster collection as a source of inspiration for his own musical creativity. The exhibition features film posters as well as collectible electric guitars, monster masks and sculptures.

Shipwrecks and Salem Maritime!

Learn how to map a shipwreck, write underwater, and operate an underwater robot! Although we won't actually be practicing archaeology, you'll see exactly what maritime archaeology is (you may be surprised!) and what it can teach us about the pivotal role in Salem's history. Join Dr. Calvin Mires, Co-Founder and Instructor of Seafaring Education and Maritime Archaeological Heritage Program (SEAMAHP) in bringing maritime heritage to life through these fun hands-on activities for all ages!
