100 Years of Agricultural Education

Hosted By:

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School

Scheduling Note:

Tours start on the hour
Granted by descendents the Hawthorne family in 1913, the 166 acre campus of the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School has been used as both a farm and a classroom. With over 2.5 miles of on site and adjoining wetland trails the school's grounds offer many things to do and explore. See farm animals, wildlife, and even the remains of the Danvers TB infirmary. Our wetland conservation efforts are beginning to get results with more accessible trails, decreases in invasive plants, and increases in wildlife diversity. Students will offer tours and guide activities, such as macroinvertebrate sampling, fishing, water sampling, and wetland planting in our outdoor classroom. Visit the horse paddocks and eventing arena or just relax by the pond. Come and see the type of education that really inspires students and gets young people engaged in learning and careers.

Special Instructions:

Please dress appropriately for wetland trails. Reduce exposure to ticks and poison ivy by staying on trails. All equipment for activities will be provided. Binoculars and scopes are available and photography is encouraged. Please keep our animals healthy by only entering areas where permitted and not feeding them. Pond area can be accessed by wheelchairs, and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.
