Essex County Salt Tour

Hosted By:

Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site
During the mid-seventeenth century, the “Ironworks at Lynn” manufactured large cast iron “salt pans” for the purpose of evaporating seawater to make salt. During the Colonial period, there were numerous places throughout Essex County attempting to produce salt. Join Park Rangers for a tour of the Iron Works. Then, depart the Iron Works on a motor coach to visit an early salt-making site in Essex County.
