Old Put – Danvers Hero of the American Revolution

Join the Danvers DAR Chapter at the Holten House to hear about Gen. Israel Putnam, a Danvers native and colorful figure of 18th-century America, who played key roles in both the French & Indian War & the Revolution. He reportedly gave the command “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes” at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Robert Hubbard’s talk will include discussion of Putnam’s Massachusetts ancestors, his youth in Danvers, his two marriages, and the last trip of his life – a ride back to his childhood home in Danvers.
