Essex Heritage is very pleased to be awarded a $3,150 matching grant from Preservation Massachusetts in partnership with The 1772 Foundation. This grant will be used to rehabilitate the 1895 Oil House at the Bakers Island Light Station. The work will be done during the summer of 2021.
“We are honored to be chosen as a recipient of this competitive grant from The 1772 Foundation,” said Annie C. Harris, Essex Heritage CEO. “These matching funds will help us rebuild the Oil House roof this summer. The maintenance and restoration of the historic structures at the Bakers Island Light Station are on-going challenges on the island due to the harsh marine environment.”
