Marblehead is a picturesque coastal town that is steeped in history. Marblehead’s first settlers migrated from Salem in the early 1600s. In its early years fishing and the shoe industry were Marblehead’s two major sources of income. In fact, so many ships were captained and crewed by Marbleheaders they claim to be the Birthplace of the American Navy. Marblehead is also famous for its involvement in the Revolutionary War – it was General Glover’s Marblehead regiment who ferried Washington’s army across the Delaware River. Coastal Byway Miles: 5.1
