Rockport is a small seaside community located on the northernmost tip of Cape Ann. Here you will find some of the most beautiful beaches and scenery in the country – its rocky beaches and seaside parks are a favorite place for visitors to walk and contemplate the power and grandeur of the Atlantic Ocean. The Town of Rockport was incorporated in 1840 – after the first granite quarries were developed and Rockport granite was being shipped throughout the East Coast, particularly during the Industrial Revolution. After the demand for granite decreased, Rockport l thrived as an artists’ colony due to its rocky beaches, quaint fishing shacks, and colorful fishing boats. A red fishing shack, known as ‘Motif Number 1’, is the most painted building in America.
